LWOB has adopted some aspects of the NITA, the National Institute of Trial Advocacy “learning by doing” methodology and works with partners to create case files that are based entirely on local content and context. LWOB has added its own signature modules to the NITA trial advocacy model which include the use of ARS (Audience Response Technology), substantive law modules and digitized avatars for teaching sessions on evidentiary and other country-specific special challenges. Our intense 5 and 8 day standard training programs are completely interactive has garnered universal praise.
To date, the teaching model has been used in groups as small as 12-15 and as large as 125 at one time without diluting the level of interaction, participation and programming quality. The LWOB STTAT model can be combined with TOT trainings (Train the Trainer), the ultimate goal of which is to create a team of trainers from the target region and/or with Judicial Symposiums PEER TO PEER Trainings– Judge to Judge trainings.
Our training teams brought into the subject country consist of between 15 to 30 lawyers, judges (and support staff) ensuring that the training has the capacity to break out the entire training into small sessions of 10-12 trainees and one-on-one sessions with each trainee. Team travel is preceded by small pre-arrival teams or individuals who perform assessments, observations and put training logistics into place. Often that same team or person remains in-country post-training to continue with post-training courtroom observation and to interview trainees to elicit more detailed feedback that helps measure impact.
LWOB has the generous pro bono assistance of lawyers from around the world. Teams of lawyers from Shearman & Sterling LLP, Jones Day, Ropes and Gray, Gibson Dunn, Linklaters, McDermott Will & Emery, Reed Smith, Akin Gump, INTEL, Viacom, and WigdorLLP have been integrally involved with LWOB researching, assessing, drafting and training.
